Finding calm through the chaos

perspectives from my yoga mat

hi!

people like to say we are living in “unprecedented times.” I agree with them. the way we look at health is changing, the way we look at leadership is changing, the way we look at work-life balance is changing, the way we look at money is changing… with so much change, more than ever we need tools and ways to stay grounded and centered through the chaos.

today I’m sharing 3 ideas:
a grounding practice, a healthy habit, and a free meditation

stay grounded

relax in legs-up-the-wall pose before bed

just 10 minutes of lying on your back with your legs resting up a wall can help calm your nervous system and signal to your body that it’s time to slow down. to get into the position, lay down with your legs facing the wall and bring your sit bones as close to the wall as you can. raise your legs up, placing them on the wall. you can place a pillow or rolled up blanket under your hips for extra support here.

once you’re in the pose, close your eyes, place one hand on your belly and one hand on your heart, and follow your breath as it rises and falls. I like to play a nature track or calming instrumental music on Insight Timer while I do this to help my mind settle even more.

this gentle inversion eases tension, reduces stress, and brings a sense of quiet back into your body after a full day. it’s a simple way to ground yourself before bed— I guarantee you’ll sleep better than if you hadn’t done it. sleep tight 😉

stay healthy

healthy habit of the moment: supporting the liver

now that it’s (finally) spring we can use the energy of a new season to usher in a new healthy habit. this is a great time to give your body a mini reset - I personally have been choosing to support my liver at this time, giving it a boost by eliminating alcohol and adding in dandelion root tea. it’s been three weeks since I’ve had any alcohol and I plan to keep it going - my body feels great.

—dandelion root tea: I use the Traditional Medicinals brand. cover the mug and let it steep for 10-15 minutes. you can add raw honey if you’d like but I enjoy it plain. you can safely drink up to 3 cups a day.

—a bonus benefit of dandelion is it has slimming effects! it naturally supports the body in eliminating excess water weight and bloating.

—after a couple weeks of abstaining from alcohol and instead consuming this delicious herbal tea, I have no doubt you’ll feel a healthy difference
